FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fans of the Fort Wayne Komets will get a chance to catch a glimpse of the 2018-19 version of the team during two preseason games in the first weekend of October.
As announced by the ECHL, the Komets will travel to the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis on October 5th for a 6 p.m. game with the Indy Fuel, before hosting the Fuel the next night at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
Those two games are just a small part of a total 24 preseason slate scheduled to start September 30th and continue through October 7th. In addition to the two preseason games, the Komets will clash with Indy 11 times during the upcoming season, twice more than last year.
For the Komets, it will not only be a chance to face off against a Western Conference and Central Division rival in Indy, but also to test out team chemistry. The Komets are a very different group than last year’s roster, thanks to the departures of Shawn Szydlowski, Garrett Thompson, and Gabriel Desjardins, among others, plus the addition of players like Garret Ross, Garrett Ladd, and brothers Alexander Kuqali and Nicholas Kuqali.
In fact, while there are only eight players from last year’s team returning, coach Gary Graham expects the Ks will make up for that with an increase in speediness.
The 2018-19 ECHL Regular Season officially begins on October 12th, with the Komets once again visiting Indy for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop. The Komets’ first home game will come a week later, on October 20th, as they host the Kalamazoo Wings.
