FORT WAYNE, IN—In the only meeting of the season between the two teams, the Fort Wayne Komets extended the Rapid City Rush’s losing streak to four games and picked up two points on the Toledo Walleye.
The Komets got things rolling just fifteen seconds into the first period when Marc-Oliver Roy snuck the puck past Rush goaltender Adam Vay. The Rush answered at 8:48 when Matt Caito solved the Garrett Bartus puzzle and tied the game. Mason Baptista shot a one-timer with help from Shawn Szydlowski.
The Komets kept the momentum going heading into the second period when Ryan Lowney scored his fifth of the season with the helpers going to Szydlowski and Roy. The Rush was not going down without a fight when Tyler Deresky got some help from Dante Salituro. The period ended with the Komets leading the Rush in shots on goal 21-16.
The Komets looked to extend their streak of 18-0 when leading going into the third period. Cody Sol got the ball rolling just 1:33 into the third with some help from Garrett Thompson and Baptista. Szydlowski scored his twenty-second of the season with Baptista on the assist once again. Rush forward Kenton Miller scored on his former team at 6:10 going into the third. Riley Weselowki was able to capitalize on a fluke by Bartus and bring the Rush within a goal of tying the game. At 19:53 Sol got his sixth goal of the season when he scored on the Rush’s empty net.
The Komets are on the road tomorrow night when they take on the Wheeling Nailers. Puck drop is at 8:05.
