With one week to go in the regular season, a lot still needs to be decided. There are still five playoff spots up for grabs with nine teams still in contention. None of the opening round match-ups have been decided.

Before we get into the individual races, here are the teams who have clinched berths in the Kelly Cup Playoffs:

  • Toledo Walleye (North)
  • Fort Wayne Komets (North)
  • Florida Everblades (East Division Champion)
  • South Carolina Stingrays (East)
  • Reading Royals (East)
  • Allen Americans (Central Division Champion)
  • Rapid City Rush (Central)
  • Quad City Mallards (Central)
  • Idaho Steelheads (Pacific Division Champion)
  • Ontario Reign (Pacific)
  • Colorado Eagles (Pacific)

Home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs will be awarded to the top 2 teams in each division.

The race for the Brabham Cup and home-ice throughout the playoffs is tight. Here is a breakdown of that:

Toledo Walleye

Florida Everblades

Allen Americans

Idaho Steelheads

Ft Wayne Komets

Should the Walleye falter in their final 3 games, the Brabham Cup would be decided between the Everblades, Americans and Steelheads.

The race for the conference titles are also tight. In the East, Toledo has a 2-point lead over Florida. Allen and Idaho are tied with 100 points, but Allen has two games in hand on Idaho for the top seed in the western conference.

Now, onto the divisional races.

In the North, the race is for the third and fourth spots. Kalamazoo (73 pts) and Cincinnati (71 pts) are currently in those positions. Cincinnati finishes with tough road tests at Toledo and Fort Wayne. Wheeling (68 pts) holds a game-in-hand on Cincinnati, but are 3 points out. The Nailers finish with 3 road games and 1 at home.

The Orlando Solar Bears currently hold the fourth playoff position in the East division. Orlando holds a 4-point lead over the Greenville Road Warriors (82 to 78,) and will clinch the final playoff spot in the east division with a win and Greenville loss.

In the Central Division, where two teams are fighting for the remaining playoff spot. Tulsa (75 pts,) holds a 3-point lead on the Wichita Thunder (72 pts). Wichita and Tulsa will meet on Wednesday and Friday at Intrust Bank Arena for a pair of games that will decide the final playoff spot in the central.

Finally, the race in the Pacific division is down to the Utah Grizzlies and defending Kelly Cup champion, Alaska Aces. Utah currently holds a 3-point lead. The Grizzlies will finish with games at Idaho and Colorado, while Alaska will finish with 3 home games against the Ontario Reign.
