INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Kansas City Mavericks announced on Sunday afternoon that forwards Darren Nowick and Mike McMurtry have been returned to the team after spending time with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. This is welcome news for a Mavericks squad that has been scrambling to find forward depth recently due to injuries.
McMurtry had been selected to the ECHL All-Star Game prior to his call-up to Stockton. He was leading the Mavericks in scoring before heading west and retains that honor despite the time spent in the AHL. During his time in Stockton, he was credited with one assist in eight games.
Nowick had recorded a goal and two assists in eight games with the Heat. Nowick had been up in Stockton since early January and had provided the energy and relentless two-way play Kansas City fans are accustomed to seeing from him.
The Mavericks face a tough Colorado Eagles team on Tuesday and the return of these forwards should be a huge shot in the arm to the Mavericks offense.
