After an awful start to the season, the Elmira Jackals have started to move in the right direction.
The past two weeks, the Elmira Jackals started heading in an upward direction. The team was able to pull the monkey off their back and break a 10 game losing streak beating the first place Manchester Monarchs 5 – 3. With the win, the Jackals moved forward with their best stretch of the season, going 3 – 1 – 2 in thier last six games, including going on a five game point streak.
Some of the biggest help have come from players sent down from Rochester. Justin Kea and Vaclav Karabacek have scored a combine five goals. Kea, registered two goals while Karabacek not only scored his first professional goal, he went on to score three goals, three assist, and a +5 ranking. With his performance Karaback recieved the ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 27th – Dec. 3rd. Karabacek is a second round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Even with the upward trend, there is still much to work on for this young Jackal team. The team has shown consistency with not giving up and staying in the games even when down late in the third period. Even multiple times, the team has given up leads late in the game. Elmira had 1 goal leads against Kalamazoo on November 30th only to lose 4 – 3 in OT, against Brampton on December 4th and lost 3 – 2 in OT. On Wednesday night, the Jackals in Florida against the Everblades had a 3 – 0 lead early in the 2nd period, and ended up losing 7 – 4. This team needs to learn how to protect the leads if they want to continue digging out of the basement of the ECHL North Division.
This weekend, the Jackals will continue their 3 game series in Florida against the Everblades this Friday and Saturday Night before having a week off and playing a back to back in Manchester against the Monarchs.
