The 2018-19 ECHL regular season begins in less than a week, and the In The Corners Podcast was there to tackle all the ins and outs of the 31st season of hockey’s premier ‘AA’ league! Guest co-hosts included some of The Sin Bin’s best, with Editor-in-Chief Matthew Harding, ECHL Editor Kristen Wooten, and Norfolk Admirals correspondent Ted Warren.
Harding returns from Vegas, KWoot is still sweating in Ohio, and Warren celebrates his 31st birthday! Ted also talked about the work he does in the special education and mental health fields, and where he got the compassion to take on those realms.
C.C. attended the Idaho Steelheads preseason game against the Utah Grizzlies on October 6 and made some observations regarding line groupings, defensive pairings, and who impressed him as a speedy threat.
Matt discussed the only preseason game for the Wichita Thunder against the Tulsa Oilers, the AHL hanging onto some of Wichita’s defensive stalwarts, and Malcolm Cameron’s observation on this season’s roster depth.
Kristen elaborated more on the Cincinnati Cyclones and reiterated offseason updates from last week’s episode. She detailed the goaltending situation between Cincy and their AHL affiliate in Rochester, with the question of where Buffalo Sabres prospect Jonas Johansson would play the most this coming year.
Ted educated the panel on the Norfolk Admirals and their big offseason trade of last year’s rookie sensation Grant Besse to the South Carolina Stingrays for last season’s All-Star Classic MVP Taylor Cammarata. He also detailed Norfolk’s new partnership with the Arizona Coyotes and AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners and how that may (or may not!) benefit the Admirals this year.
Each of the four co-hosts broke down playoff predictions for their respective divisions (C.C. and Harding for the Mountain, Kristen for the Central, and Ted for the South) and all four made their calls on the North Division, as well.
