INDEPENDENCE, MO — The Quad City Mallards dropped game two in their first round matchup against the Missouri Mavericks 2-1 tonight, losing a chance at home ice advantage in a very close game. The series will move to the Quad Cities for Wednesday, Friday, and possibly Saturday.
Former Mallard goalie Parker Milner and present Mallard goaltender Brody Hoffman made save after save for a combined total of 49 saves in the night. One goal was scored in each of the periods.
Reed Seckel put the Mavericks on the board just over halfway through the first period, David de Kastrozza and Josh Holmstrom assisting. Holmstrom would then score his own goal twenty minutes later, Darian Dziurzynski and de Kastrozza earning the assists.
Sam Warning ended Milner’s shutout bid at 5:56 of the final period. Olivier Archambault and Matt Neal also earned points on that tally.
In contrast to last night’s game, the power play units were unsuccessful throughout the night.
Game Three will begin at 6:35 PM on Wednesday at the iWireless Center. Friday’s game will start at 7 PM, as will Saturday’s if necessary.
