ESTERO, Fla. – For every hockey team, there’s one player that is every die-hard fans favorite and this year, Florida Everblades Mitchell Heard has started to inch his way to the top of the list. Even the ‘Blades digital team has been backing Heard with the #HeardThat movement since the start of the season to try and elevate Heard’s fan-favorite status.

While arguments can be made for both sides to see if Heard is a worthy replacement to take over the ‘Blades long-lived #BraceYourself campaign, one thing is undeniable Heard fans are loud and starting to grow at Germain Arena.

Puts Up Points

Since the start of the season, Heard has notched 52 points including 21 goals and 31 assists in his 51 games. The Bowmanville, Ontario native is third in point totals, just two short from overtaking John McCarron on the ‘Blades point leaders list.

“Heard has been instrumental in the team’s success,” said associate coach Tad O’Had. “He has continued to contribute offensively making himself a top player in the ECHL.”

Heard’s also put up 12 multi-point appearances with the ‘Blades this season, it’s clear he contributes and is consistent.

Not Scared Of The Sin Bin

Heard might not be considered the team’s enforcer, but his fight card and clocked penalty minutes hardly go unnoticed by fans. Heard is not afraid to act and will drop the gloves. This year alone, Heard has clocked 125 penalty minutes and three fights are recorded according to

It’s close but Heard beats out Brett Bulmer to lead the ‘Blades in penalty minutes. In his 137-game stint in the ECHL, Heard has took a look in the box for 393 minutes.

Relishes The Hype

Heard loves the attention and it’s translating for him on the ice.

“He has an incredibly high compete level with high-end skill. He plays with a ton of emotion and energy,” O’Had said on the forward’s success this year.

His offensive ability is clearly there, and whether you like the eccentric style celebrations and playing to the crowd he brings a mix of both skill and energy to the ice that’s undeniable.

Heard and his Everblades teammates will open up a three-game set with the Orlando Solar Bears, beginning Thursday night.
