SAN DIEGO, CA – The Manitoba Moose were looking to continue the roll they were on as they headed out on the road and were looking for a big game against the San Diego Gulls who they swept at home a week earlier. At least on this night, the Gulls got some measure of revenge and ended the Manitoba four-game win, defeating the Moose 4-2.

Eric Comrie got the start in the pipes for Manitoba and he held down the fort for most of the game. Perhaps his best save of the night came off a shorthanded bid from Gulls’ newcomer Jordan Samuels-Thomas in the first period. In all, Comrie he stopped 34 shots and suffered the loss.

The hometown Gulls got out to a fast start as Jordan Samuels-Thomas got his 1st of the season, burying a centering pass from Ondrej Kase to gives the Gulls a 1-0 advantage heading into the dressing room.

The Gulls continued to generate plenty of chances and finally broke through at 12:33 when Kevin Roy potted his team-leading fourth goal of the season off the rush.

Dan DeSalvo who was recently signed to a PTO contract by the Moose, got his first of the year late in the second to give the Moose some life heading into the final period down 2-1.

Things went from bad to worse early as Brandon Montour scored his third of the season a minute into the period to give the Gulls a 3-1 lead.

Things got a little testy in the third as Darren Kramer, the Manitoba tough guy, dropped the mitts with Nick Tarnasky of the Gulls. The two had a quick dance before serving five minutes.  A few minutes later Jake Baker took exception to a Corey Tropp hit and they decided to settle things with no gloves and the Moose found themselves down a man as Baker got two for instigating.

Kevin Czuczman ripped home his second of the year with just over three minutes remaining to make this one interesting, but Dustin Tokarski shut it down, picking up his third win of the season after stopping 21 shots on the night.

San Diego was all over Manitoba as the shots and the play were very one sided and if not for some great goaltending by Comrie, this game could have been very ugly.

These two teams will go right back it at tonight in San Diego.
