ST. JOHN’S, NL – The defending Kelly Cup Champion Newfoundland Growlers have clinched their second straight playoff berth with a 5-2 victory over the Adirondack Thunder on Friday, March 6.

Friday’s win marks Newfoundland’s sixth straight victory, one of which includes a 9-1 blowout against Jacksonville. During that time, Brady Ferguson, Zach O’Brien and Justin Brazeau have contributed to the teams all-around core, providing a healthy dose of offense with a combined 13 goals and seven assists.

Running a 40-17-1 record, it’s been a part of an outstanding second season for the Growlers, including an ECHL record-breaking home winning streak of 19 straight wins.

But, the season comes in part with new faces and changes both on and off the ice. It marks the beginning of his first full season for Head Coach John Snowden after taking over midway through last season. Additionally, the Growlers goaltending structure has fluctuated throughout the campaign. Running a three-goalie rotation, Newfoundland has seen top-notch performances from Parker Gahagen, Angus Redmond and Maksim Zhukov.

Newfoundland joins Cincinnati, Florida, Allen, and South Carolina as teams who’ve qualified for the 2020 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The Growlers next game comes Saturday at home, where they’ll once again face the Adirondack Thunder. The game begins at 7:00 pm NST and will be live on ECHL TV.
