Des Moines, IA- The Griffins inconsistency continued as they were doubled up by the Iowa Wild by a score of 4-2.
Iowa struck first when Zack Mitchell scored about nine minutes into the game. Christoph Bertschy and Pat Cannone were credited with the assist on a couple of slick passes near the side of the net before Mitchell buried it.
The Wild increased their lead to two goals when Kyle Rau scored a goal in the second period.
Turner Elson cut the deficit in half scoring his sixth goal of the season. Axel Holmstrom and Evgeny Svechnikov were given helpers on the play. Elson currently leads the team in goals.
Iowa would get a two-goal lead back when former Griffins Landon Ferraro scored to give the Wild a 3-1 lead. His shot caromed off of Joe Hicketts into the back of the net.
Tyler Bertuzzi cut the deficit to one goal scoring his third goal of the year on a power play. Ben Street took the initial shot but Bertuzzi was able to gather the rebound and score the goal.
The Wild put the game away when Bertschy scored to give Iowa their third two-goal lead of the match and giving the Wild a 4-2 victory.
The Griffins were able to kill off three penalties against the Wild. Grand Rapids has killed off 33 of the last 34 penalties they have committed.
Tom McCollum took the loss who was not expected to start but a last-minute injury announcement to Jared Coreau lead to McCollum being called upon.
Brian Lashoff has been sent back to the Griffins following the loss to Iowa.
