INDIANAPOLIS – Friday morning, the ECHL and the Indy Fuel, unveiled the game uniforms that will be worn during the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic on Monday, January 15 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
The four jerseys will represent each of the league’s four divisions, the Central, Mountain, North, and South, who will compete in a 3-on-3 tournament in January. The four uniforms represent the host team, the Indy Fuel by using their red, yellow, black and white color scheme. Along with the Indy Fuel color scheme, the ECHL and Indy Fuel paid homage to the racing history in Indianapolis with checkered flag stripes on each arm.
Personally, I’m a big fan of the All-Star Jerseys for this season. Last season’s jerseys were a little too plain for my liking. When it comes to specialty jerseys or All-Star Game jerseys, my favorite part is seeing how intricate teams can get with them. That said, the Fuel didn’t go elaborate, but they went simple with a twist.
As a New York Rangers fan at heart, I highly respect the diagonal font on the jerseys. I think it is a classic look and on a jersey with not a lot going on, it looks nice. Moving on to the shoulders, imagine these jerseys with no shoulder yoke. It would look terrible. The simple, diagonal font with the different colored shoulders is a good look and a simple one at that. Brownie points for that. The stars on the bottom of the jersey are fine. I’m not a huge fan, but for an All-Star game, they work.
I also really like the stripes on each jersey. I think the name “Fuel” and the city of Indianapolis is synonymous with racing history. If you have a game like an All-Star game, you should put some checkered flags in there to pay homage to that racing history. The Indy Fuel and the ECHL did just that with these All-Star jerseys. Only thing I would change is the red and yellow checkers. I’d go black and white for every jersey, just because that is how the checkered flags are at the Indianapolis 500 or the Brickyard.
Overall, I’m a big fan of the ECHL All-Star Classic jerseys. I think they look sharp and will work very well for the big event on January 15th. I can’t wait to see them in person and might be spending the money to have one of my own.
