ESTERO, FL – The search for Greg Poss‘ replacement is close to being completed. Poss left South Florida on May 26 for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Hockey League.
Ryan Toohey with the Naples Daily News reports the search has been narrowed down to five candidates, including Poss’ assistant coach Tad O’Had.
Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush is expected to announce the new coach early next week.
“I received over 50 resumes,” Brush said. “They were all over the map. They were from people who had modest backgrounds in pro hockey to NHL assistant coaches.”
“He’s obviously very familiar with our situation here, and he is a hardworking guy,” Brush continued. “He wants to be a career coach, and over the three years he’s been working with us, you won’t find anyone who has been more dedicated to the role he’s had. Those reasons alone make him a strong candidate.”
Brush has conducted phone interviews with over a dozen prospective candidates, and have done face-to-face interviews with O’Had and four other finalists.
Toohey reports the team is trying to find a coach, while constructing a roster for next season, a process O’Had has been very involved in.
The team protected Mike Cornell, David Wohlberg, Gabriel Desjardins, Brant Harris, Brendan O’Donnell, Ralph Cuddemi, Greg Gibson and Ethan Werek. Gibson has signed to play overseas with Starbulls Rosenheim.
When the Everblades position is filled, that will leave the Elmira Jackals as the only team in the ECHL with an open head coaching position.
