ESTERO, Fla. – After earning a 4-1 win during Game 1 Friday night, the Florida Everblades looked to take a 2-0 series lead in the South Division Finals with a victory over the Orlando Solar Bears Saturday night at Germain Arena.

They did just that, this time skating to a 5-1 victory.

“The key was we stayed the course, there was a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on, I thought the refs did a better job as the game went along,” said head coach Brad Ralph. “For our group to stay disciplined and focused and really play our game it says a lot about our group and how we’re going to be moving forward.”

Sam Warning and Mitchell Heard both scored twice, while Martin Ouellette made 26 saves as Florida chased off Solar Bears goalie Cal Heeter and moved two wins away from obtaining a second consecutive series sweep.

Dave Dziurzynski also scored for Florida, who notched his fourth point (2G, 2A) of the postseason on a shorthanded goal at the 13:27 mark into the third.

Chris LeBlanc found the lone goal of the battle for Orlando. LeBlanc and Hunter Fejes have been the only Bears to score on Ouellette during Round 2.

Goal of the Game:

Mitchell Heard’s backhander against Cal Heeter to tally his second goal of the night.

Highlight of the Game:

Florida and Orlando extend the rivalry into the postseason when Brett Bulmer and Tayler Thompson battle it out in the third period.

What’s next?

Game 3, Game 4 and Game 5 (if necessary) will take place at the home of the Solar Bears at the Amway Center. Puck drops on Game 3 on Thursday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m.
