ESTERO, FL- The Florida Everblades wore special military jerseys both Friday and Saturday night to close out the series against the Cincinnati Cyclones to honor Veterans Day in America on Saturday night and Remembrance Day in Canada.
The ‘Blades also had a bagpiper who performed God Bless America for the Friday night event, and the entire home team’s starting lineup skated onto the ice with American flags exiting the tunnel before their game to pay tribute for Veterans Day.
Despite the ‘Blades opening the series with two back-to-back losses, Saturday night Callum Booth’s dynamic performance in net led the team to a 1-0 victory that shut down the Cyclones five-game win streak.
Former Ottawa Senators winger Dave Dziurzynski secured the lone goal of the battle at 4:32 into the opening frame, a first for Dziurzynski’s in an Everblades sweater.
On Sunday, the ‘Blades continued the winning momentum for an afternoon clash against the Orlando Solar Bears. The 4-3 win against the in-state rivals left the ‘Blades with a 10-2-1 record to remain on top of the league standings overall with 21 points.
The ‘Blades will next to travel to face the Jacksonville Icemen on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to Germain Arena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to close out the series.
