WICHITA, Kan. – For the first time in five weeks, there is a new team at the top of the ECHL Power 10!
This week, the Cincinnati Cyclones take the mantle atop the ECHL Power 10. The Cyclones are unbeaten in their last four games and 7-2-0-1 in their last ten games. Last week, they went into Toledo and claimed a 3-1 win over the Walleye during a kids’ day game. Three nights later, they backed it up with another 3-1 win on the road at Wings Event Center.
The Cyclones have a deep and well-balanced offense, led by Brady Vail and Jesse Schultz, who have 21 points each. Not far behind is former Indy Fuel forward Alex Wideman, who has 19 points in 19 games played. Defensively, the ‘Clones possess the stingiest defense in the league, allowing an average of 2.26 goals per contest, including just nine goals in the third period. Goaltender Michael Houser has won four of his last five decisions, allowing nine goals on 145 shots faced during that span (1.80 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.)
But not too far behind the Cyclones are the Newfoundland Growlers. The Growlers lost a pair of games to the Reading Royals last weekend, but rebounded Tuesday night with a 6-3 win over Maine. The dogs are led offensively by Scott Pooley, who has a seven-game point streak.
Occupying the last spot on the podium this week are the Utah Grizzlies. Tim Branham‘s bunch sit three points off the league-lead and have some balance through their lineup, led by the duo of Caleb Herbert and Cole Ully. The Utah defense has been tight as well, allowing just 2.77 goals per game, fourth-best in the ECHL, largely thanks in part to the goaltending from Joe Cannata and Kevin Carr.
Here is a look at past rankings:
At the conclusion of play each weekend, our writing team will rank all 27 ECHL teams and the average of those rankings makes up the “Composite” ranking. Unlike rankings we have done in the past, you will now get to see how every ECHL writer voted.
