WICHITA, Kan. – For the second week in a row, there is a new team at the top of this week’s Power 10. Thanks to a 5-0-0-0 start, the Jacksonville Icemen are the team at the top for the first time in the rankings history.
Jason Christie‘s team seems to have a good balance to the roster early on this season, with three players averaging over a point-per-game; led by ECHL Player of the Week Alexis D’Aoust, who has 12 pts — 6G, 6A in 5 games — so far. The Icemen defense has been incredibly stingy, allowing just 27.2 shots per game on average, which is third-best in the ECHL. Finally, the netminders have been stellar, allowing a league-low 1.80 goals per game with a combined save percentage of .934.
The Icemen have a tough weekend test coming up, when they host the defending Eastern Conference champion, Florida Everblades, for a pair starting on Friday night.
Last week’s top team, the Utah Grizzlies, dropped to second, thanks to a split of the weekend series with the Idaho Steelheads. Utah faces tough division challenges this week, with games in Indy Thursday night, Kansas City Saturday night, and Wichita Sunday afternoon.
The team currently on top of the ECHL standings, the Adirondack Thunder, sits third in this week’s rankings.
At the conclusion of play each weekend, our writing team will rank all 27 ECHL teams and the average of those rankings makes up the “Composite” ranking. Unlike rankings we have done in the past, you will now get to see how every ECHL writer voted. The rankings will debut every Tuesday afternoon here on The Sin Bin!
