WICHITA, KS – The ECHL has had enough of Triston Grant. Ahead of their game against the Wichita Thunder Wednesday night, the ECHL suspended Grant 14 games — the remainder of the Quad City Mallards regular season — for this “fight” with Justin MacDonald of the Fort Wayne Komets Sunday:

  1. I am glad that the ECHL handed Triston Grant a severe punishment for his ruthless sucker punch. The linesmen were quick in getting them separated. Justin MacDonald wasn’t in a fighting hockey stance, have his gloves off nor was the puck was in play. Being a hardcore hockey fan, fighting needs to go away as I am opposed to that. If you want to see people getting punched watch MMA or boxing.

  2. How can you be a “hardcore” hockey fan and be opposed to fighting? I assume you became a fan of this neutered game that used to be hockey. Kind of an excessive penalty. MacDonald was running his mouth and not willing to back up it up. Welcome to the kinder, gentler wuss players.

  3. Grant slashed Fort Wayne’s Thompson right across the back after he scored on the play prior to the faceoff where the fight occurred. I’ve got to think the slash was also taken into consideration when determining his punishment. The rest of the season seems appropriate.
