ECHL All-Star Classic Delayed Due to COVID

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One day after the ECHL announced the start of the 2020-21 season would be delayed until at least December 4, today, the league announced a delay of their crown in-season event, the ECHL All-Star Classic.

Jacksonville was selected as the host for the event, that was originally scheduled to be held on January 18, 2021, earlier this year. The City of Jacksonville will remain as the host of the event in 2022.

Details for the event, including a date, will be announced at a later time.

“We want Jacksonville to be the best All-Star Game in ECHL history and did not want the COVID pandemic to effect its success. We are excited that this opportunity allows us to put our best skate forward and showcase Jacksonville to the entire hockey world in 2022,” said Bob Ohrablo, President of the Jacksonville Icemen. “We want to thank the ECHL, its Board of Governors, the City of Jacksonville and ASM (operators of the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena).”

The league announced on Tuesday their intention to hold a full 72-game season, but with the nearly two-month delay, there will likely be a compressed schedule in order to fulfill the timeline to get a full season in.
