Two nights after suffering a 5-1 defeat on home-ice in game 3 of their Pacific Division Semifinal series, the Colorado Eagles evened up their series with the Ontario Reign Wednesday night.
Colorado opened up the scoring at 2:12 of the opening stanza, as Trent Daavettila potted a Kyle Kraemer offering past Jussi Olkinuora. Minutes later, the Eagles struck again as Vitalijs Pavlovs recorded his second goal of the playoffs to give the birds a 2-0 lead. Ontario would battle back, and just as the period was ending, Judd Blackwater scored to make it 2-1.
Just past the halfway mark in the second period, Blackwater fired a one-timer past goaltender Clarke Saunders to knot the game at 2. Three minutes and 45 seconds later, Garry Nunn would light the lamp, firing a wrist shot past Saunders to give the Reign a 3-2 lead. The see-saw affair continued though, as Daavettila would score his second of the night to tie the game a 3 goals a piece after 40 minutes.
The game would remain tied through much of the 3rd period, until Brock Nixon netted a rebound with 5:21 left to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead. Saunders would hold the fort down in the final minutes to ensure a Colorado victory of 4-3.
The series now becomes a best-of-three, with game 5 set to go Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05 local time. Game 6 and if necessary, game 7, would be held in Ontario on Monday and Tuesday nights.
