The Providence Bruins took on the Albany Devils Friday night in their first game of a two game road trip.
Zane McIntyre got the start in net for the Providence Bruins and was opposed by Yann Danis for the Devils. The Bruins looked to get back into the win column as the first period got underway. The B’s controlled the play early hemming the Devils in their own zone for the early part of the first. But as the period wore on the Devils started gaining more and more chances on the McIntyre. The Devils were the first on the board when Joseph Blandisi got a good shot to bounce over McIntyre, he was assisted by Seth Helgeson and Vojtech Mozik. The Bruins got in penalty trouble when Ben Sexton went to the box for tripping. The Devils were able to convert on the power play giving them a 2-0 lead in the game. The goal was scored by Blake Pietila assisted by Vojtech Mozik and Brandon Burlon. There was no puck luck for the Providence Bruins in the first period. The period ended with the Bruins trailing 2-0 and the shots 7 to 4 in favor of the Albany Devils.
The Bruins looked to get back to their game and put the rough first period behind them when they came out for the second. The Devils dominated the Bruins trough the early part of the period, forcing Zane McIntyre had to stand on his head to save some of the shots. Chris Casto made a great defensive play breaking up a would be break away chance for the devils. Garry Nunn went to the box for a trip and put the Bruins down again in the game. The Devils once again converted on the power play when Reid Boucher put the puck past McIntyre, he was assisted by Brandon Burlon and Vojtech Mozik. The B’s started to find their rhythm as the second wore on and started to test Dannis more and more. The baby Bruins finally broke through when Brent Bellemore broke the shutout assisted by Linus Arnesson and Austin Czarnik. The second ended with the baby Bruins trailing 3-1 with the shots 12-9 in favor of the Providence Bruins.
Providence looked to take their late momentum into the third and gain a few more scoring chances. Reid Boucher scored 1:57 into the third assisted by Blake Pietila, the goal gave Albany the 4-1 lead. The Bruins had tough time trying to break through Dannis and couldn’t get past the Devils defense. The Devils went down a man when Seth Helegson went to the box for delay of game. The baby Bruins looked to get out of their scoring rut on the power play with this opportunity late in the game. Noel Acciari finally ended the drought when he finished a pass from Chris Casto, Matt Irwin was given the secondary assist. Providence kept the pressure up on the Devils for the remainder of the game, but couldn’t break through. The final score was 4-2 and the loss extended the Providence Bruins losing streak to five games.
Third star Noel Acciari, who got his first professional goal on Friday night for the Bruins. Second star Vojtech Mozik, he had three assists in the win for the Devils. First star Reid Boucher, who scored the third and fourth goals for the Devils and helped put the game out of reach.
The Providence Bruins will play the Portland Pirates at the Dunkin Donuts center on Sunday afternoon.
