ALLEN, TX – The Kelly Cup Champions will once again have quite a bit of sand paper and grit on their blueline this season.
At an open house event, held at the Allen Event Center, the team announced that Aaron Gens will be back in Americans’ red for a third season.
“This is where I wanted to be,” said Gens. “Allen has become a second home for me. Coach Martinson is putting together a solid team that can make another long playoff run. Our quest for five in a row begins on October 15th.”
The 29-year-old Gens is entering his fifth full pro season, breaking into the professional ranks with the Lake Erie Monsters during the 2011-12 season, skating in seven games. From there, Gens has played in 205 regular-season games with three teams in the ECHL (Evansville, Reading, Allen), collecting 120 points (24G, 96A) and 360 penalty minutes.
In addition, Gens has skated in 34 Kelly Cup Playoff games, 32 of them coming with the Allen Americans. He has tallied a pair of goals, 11 assists (13 total points), 30 penalty minutes and was a +8.
Last season, Gens played in 59 regular season games, before it was cut short due to an injury sustained in a game against Missouri in early March. Gens scored a career-high nine goals, talled 21 assists (30 total points) and 65 penalty minutes. He would return to the Americans squad during the Western Conference Finals and skated in seven playoff games, scoring a goal and three assists.
The Americans roster for next season sits at eleven players, with the probability that some players will come down from San Jose. If you’ve missed it, here is a breakdown of the players announced by position so far:
Forwards – Gary Steffes (C), Chad Costello (C), Tanner Eberle, Chris Crane, Kyle Neuber, Kale Kerbashian, Dyson Stevenson, J.P. LaFontaine,
