After going dark to honor the victims of 9/11, we are back ladies and gentlemen!

It was only a short 24 hours, but we’ve got a lot to talk about today. We’ll start off with the news that hit early yesterday morning. The Cincinnati Cyclones made another addition to the 2015-2016 season, bringing in somebody with a couple games of NHL experience under his belt. Forward Adam Payerl will be joining the Cyclones this season after spending his entire career in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

From the Cyclones Official Release:

CINCINNATI, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones have signed forward Adam Payerl for the 2015-2016 season. Payerl has spent his entire pro career in the Pittsburgh Penguins system, having skated the majority of the past three seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

“Adam is a power forward who brings a lot of character to our team, and we expect him to come in and make a significant impact,” said Cyclones Head Coach Matt MacDonald. “He brings with him a great work ethic, and has experience that will help our team tremendously this season.”

A native of Kitchener, ONT, Payerl appeared in 41 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season, accounting for a pair of goals and seven assists. He also ranked fifth on the team with 76 penalty minutes.

During the 2013-2014 season, the 6’3”, 216-pound centerman got a taste of the NHL, appearing in a pair of games for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also skated in 43 games for the AHL side that season, totaling five goals and six assists. Overall, Payerl has appeared in 136 professional games with Pittsburgh, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and the Wheeling Nailers, accounting for 11 goals and 21 assists.

Prior to turning pro in 2013, Payerl enjoyed a successful junior hockey career with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Barrie Colts and Kitchener Rangers, where he scored 60 goals and added 83 assists in 306 career games.”

Picture Payerl as basically another Christiaan Minella. He’ll hit all night. He’s a tough, physical presence that can clear the opposition and give scoring machines like Jack Downing, and Andrew Yogan all the time and space they need to put up the points. Payerl is definitely going to be another vital piece to this season’s success. It will take some time, but I will try to get over the fact that he was once a Pittsburgh Penguin, as much as it hurts me inside.

Now onto the 2nd piece of news….
