CINCINNATI, OH – Hockey just got that much closer as the 2017 preseason schedule has been unveiled. For the fourth consecutive year, the Cincinnati Cyclones will go head-to-head with the Wheeling Nailers for a pair of exhibition bouts in early October before the regular season gets underway on October 14th against Kalamazoo.
Due to arena maintenance and ice installation inside U.S. Bank Arena, both tilts will take place on Wheeling’s turf at WesBanco Arena. In the previous 12 preseason contests, the Cyclones hold an 8-4-0 edge, and outscored the Nailers 7-1 in last season’s exhibition meetings.
The former divisional rivals met four times last season with Cincinnati taking three of the four, all of which were decided by one goal. Ten of the past 12 meetings between the two clubs, dating back to the 2014-15 campaign have been decided by a goal, including four overtime contests. This rivalry has been dead even as since then, both sides have won six games against each other.
The Cyclones and Nailers will meet six times during the 2017-18 season, twice in Cincinnati and four in Wheeling. Two of those contests will take place during the Cyclones’ first six games of the season.
The 2017 preseason schedule is as follows:
Friday October 6th @ Wheeling – 7:05pm EST
Sunday October 8th @ Wheeling – 5:05pm EST
