Carrying the momentum from two preseason wins against Wheeling, the Cincinnati Cyclones were able to secure two points and their first win of the young season with a 5-1 win against their in-state rivals from Toledo.

It didn’t take long to get things rolling as just 1:02 in, Andrew Yogan wrapped around the net, forcing Toledo netminder, Jake Patterson off his post; nobody noticed Jack Downing sneaking in from behind, who tapped it in the open net for the 1-0 Cincinnati lead.

We wouldn’t see anymore scoring until midway through the second period when Riley Weselowski saw Christiaan Minella ahead of the play, the headman pass was on the money, Minella went in all alone and beat Paterson through the wickets to make it 2-0 Cincinnati.

The 3rd period is where things would get interesting. The physicality ramped up, and Cincinnati’s offense would start to explode. At the 9:51 mark of the period, Andrew Yogan looking for his first goal of the season, fanned on the shit, it bounced to Joe Wilson, who buried his first professional goal to put the Cyclones up by a trio. Toledo would find so life though. In the late stages, Toledo would get on the board as Alden Hirschfeld capitalized off of a mad scramble in front of the Cincinnati net to pull the Walleye within two.

Cincinnati would finish off the night with a pair of goals in the final minute. Walleye Head Coach, Derek Lalonde pulled Paterson for the extra attacker, to have Jack Downing bury his second of the night to seal it at 4-1. But just to add more salt to the wound, Nick Huard would capitalize on a 2-on-1 rush by beating Paterson over the shoulder to make it 5-1, which would be your final. Cincinnati goaltender, Brad Thiessen backstopped the club to a victory stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced.

Cincinnati improves to (1-0-0) on the year while Toledo falls to (0-1-1).
