WICHITA, KS – One day after announcing an affiliation with the Ottawa Senators for the coming season, the Wichita Thunder has announced they are bring back a leadership pillar from last season.
The team announced that Ian Lowe is back in the fold for the coming season.
“We are pleased to announce Ian as the first signing with the Thunder for this upcoming season,” commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. “Ian has been a constant through the last couple of years and exemplifies the character traits that we are looking for now and in the future.”
This will be Lowe’s fifth season in a Thunder uniform. The native of Bradwardine, Manitoba, 5-foot-9, 175-pound winger will be the Captain for the Thunder this season, his second full season in the role. Last season, Lowe appeared in all 72 games, scored 13 goals, tallied 22 assists and was second on the team with 35 points.
In 264 regular-season games in a Thunder uniform, Lowe has 75 goals and 111 assists (186 points) and 251 penalty minutes. He sits in ninth place all-time in franchise history for points (186) and seventh place in games played (263). Lowe has reached 34 points or more during each season of his professional career.
“It’s an honor to be asked to come back and put on the Thunder logo again,” said Lowe. “I am excited to get on the ice in October and get a new era of Wichita thunder hockey going. I know there is a lot of excitement about the team when I talk to Malcolm Cameron about the upcoming season and getting the affiliation with the Ottawa Senators. I hope to be able to help put Wichita back on the hockey map and give the fans and the organization something they deserve, a winning season and a run at a championship.”
Wichita opens their silver anniversary season on Friday, October 14 against the Tulsa Oilers.
