MACON, Ga. – The Macon Mayhem hosted the Huntsville Havoc for Military Appreciation weekend on March 15 and 16. The two-game homestand started with the Third Ranger Battalion rappelling from the rafters of the Macon Coliseum. Each branch of the military was featured from the Color Guard, the National Anthem singer, to the puck drops. The Mayhem donned special Military Appreciation jerseys all weekend.
The hard-fought tilt on Friday featured goal sprinkled with intense confrontations. Blood was boiling following more than one hard hit. It spilled over into the third period, which saw a handful of unsportsmanlike and game misconducts. The Havoc took advantage of a handful of power plays to win the game 5-2.
Saturday, Macon looked to avenge the previous night’s downfall in front of a healthy Coliseum crowd. Huntsville scored within the first 16 seconds of the game, putting a damper on Macon’s spirit. The Mayhem fought back, however, tying the game before the end of the first period. After taking the lead in the second period, Macon would hold on to win 2-1.
