Wichita has two road stints that include five games away from INTRUST Bank Arena. The first one begins on New Year’s Eve in Kansas City. The Thunder will then head to Utah for three-straight against the Grizzlies and finish up in Allen on January 11. In the other road trip, Wichita will head to Idaho on March 6 for three games and finish up in Allen on March 17.
The overwhelming theme of the schedule for the coming season is to play significantly more games in the division. This season, Wichita played 42 of 72 games (58.3%) of the schedule in the division. In 2018-19, the Thunder will play 62 of 72 games (86.1%) within the Mountain Division. Wichita will only play ten games against the Central Division, but will not play Toledo or Wheeling.
Regional rivals also continue to be prominent on the schedule this season. Wichita will play 39 of their 72 games against Allen (14 times,) Kansas City (12 times,) and Tulsa (13 times.)
The Thunder will also play five of the eight teams that made the current Kelly Cup Playoff field. Additionally, Wichita will play a slightly easier schedule this coming season, largely due in part to Colorado leaving for the American Hockey League. Their opponents have a collective winning percentage of .542, compared to .563 from the year before.
Wichita will play five 3-in-3’s, with three of them coming during December. All but one of those have some travel involved, except for the December 7-9 three-in-three, when Wichita will host Rapid City at INTRUST Bank Arena. The team will play four 4-in-5 stretches during the season, with the most brutal stretch coming in mid-February when the team plays a 4-in-5 as part of a larger 5-game-in-6-day stretch.
