BREAKING: AHL Approves Vegas Team in 2020-21

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – American Hockey League President and Chief Executive Officer David Andrews announced today that the AHL Board of Governors has approved the transfer of ownership of the San Antonio Rampage AHL franchise to the Vegas Golden Knights, as well as the relocation of that franchise from San Antonio, Texas, to Henderson/Las Vegas, Nevada, effective with the 2020-21 season.
The Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate will play at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the 2020-21 season.
With the purchase and relocation of San Antonio officially approved, the Golden Knights will now have their AHL affiliate conveniently located in the Las Vegas Valley next season. This leaves the NHL’s St. Louis Blues (soon-to-be former parent club of the Rampage) and the AHL’s Chicago Wolves (whose affiliation with Vegas ends after this year) without a partnership for 2020-21. Considering that these two were already affiliated for four years (2013-17) and had their relationship sour toward end, it will be interesting to see if they decide to give it another shot given the circumstances.
The outlined topic of those two teams accompany the next item to keep an eye on: the re-branded franchise’s team name, colors, and uniforms. Since this is a developing story, be sure to keep an eye on The Sin Bin on TwitterFacebook, or our Main Website for all additional news & notes.
