BRAMPTON, ON – With training camp coming near, and opening day about a month away, it is time for your mid-September update on the happenings so far this month in the Great White North.

Montreal Renews Affiliation with Brampton

Thursday, the Montreal Canadiens and Brampton Beast announced they renewed their affiliation agreement for the third season in a row. The move came as no surprise, especially since last year was a showcase of how beneficial the arrangement could be. With Montreal moving their AHL team to Laval from St. John’s, there will be an even greater opportunity for players to go between the Rocket and Beast. Hopefully, this will not be a repeat of the 2015-16 season when the Beast had a roster of 76 players.

Beast Find an Assistant Coach

Justin Peca was rolled out as the team’s new assistant coach on September 7. Peca takes the position that opened up after Peter Goulet accepted the offer from Kingston Voyageurs to become their full-time general manager. Peca played hockey for a number of seasons at the NCAA, ECHL, and international level. Eventually, Peca moved to coaching junior hockey teams in Ontario. He brings with him that experience and other talents to help compliment Colin Chaulk’s coaching style.

Brampton Beast Unveil a Podcast Channel

As the Brampton beast start their fifth season, they have also unveiled a new podcast channel available on SoundCloud. They currently have their first two podcasts posted, with more on the way. The podcasts feature Beast broadcaster Chris Ballard and Vice President of Business Operations Ken Vezina hosting the shows. The first show featured Beast captain Brandon Marino and Beast President Cary Kaplan. The second shows featured returning defenseman Mike Folkes and a Twitter Q&A session.
