BRAMPTON, ON — In the second game between the two teams in as many days, the Quad City Mallards defeated the Brampton Beast 6-1 on Friday. The Beast outshot the Mallards 42 to 25, but obviously, those numbers don’t matter as much as the goals do. However, the fact that CJ Motte faced 42 shots and only let in one of them is a great show of his skill.

Andrew Panzarella started the scoring off unassisted for the Mallards at exactly five and a half minutes into the first period. Eleven minutes later Alex Petan would add to the lead with a tally assisted by Grant Arnold.

The scoring flurry would truly begin in the second period, with four goals being scored within roughly the same amount of minutes. David Pacan scored the only Beast tally at the 5:47 mark, assisted by Garrett Clarke and former Mallard Brandon Marino. Thirteen seconds later the Mallards would strike back in the form of Michael Parks, increasing the Mallards’ lead to two again with Justin Kovacs making his way onto the scoresheet for the assist. This goal would chase Bryan Pitton out of the Brampton crease to be replaced by Zachary Fucale. Seventy-seven seconds later Nolan LaPorte would give the Mallards a 4-1 lead, defenseman Mike Wilson earning the assist.

Brady Brassart scored a shorthanded goal at the 10:07 mark of the middle frame as Sam Warning copped a squat in the penalty box half a minute prior for cross-checking. Arnold and Panzarella assisted on Brassart’s goal.

The third period would see little action save for three minor penalties being called, two of them against the visiting team. The last penalty was called at 18:03 against Arnold for hooking. For whatever reason, Brampton pulled Fucale during their powerplay, resulting in a short-handed empty net goal for LaPorte with 59 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Mallards travel back to the States to take on the Toledo Walleye tonight at 6:15pm.
