Earlier on Tuesday, the Bakersfield Condors were hyping up a press conference on August 23rd about an event which will happen on January 7th. On Tuesday night, Mike Griffith of the Bakersfield Californian may have cracked the code. According to Griffith, the Condors are set to announce they will play in an outdoor game on January 7th at Bakersfield College, which is where the press conference is being held.
Griffith said in his article that the CEO of Rink Specialists, Rich Cubin, will be in attendance. Cubin’s company is the one who oversaw the Toledo Winterfest in Toledo, Ohio this past winter. Also in attendance will be a number of Edmonton Oilers’ front office representation, who also attended the announcement of the first outdoor AHL game in California last December in Sacramento with the California State Hockey Rush festivities last season.
With this announcement being made in a couple weeks, one has to wonder if other teams will follow. With outdoor NHL games in Winnipeg and Toronto, there are possibilities that maybe the Manitoba Moose and Toronto Marlies will be included in those festivities. However, there has been no solid indication that this is the case.
For the time being, however, Bakersfield will have the main stage for the outdoor games in the AHL and should any other announcements happen about more, we’ll be sure to have them on TheSinBin.net.
