RAPID CITY, SD — The Colorado Eagles crashed the home opener for the Rapid City Rush, topping the boys from the Black Hills 4-2 to take Game one of the weekend series.

The Eagles would light the lamp first when Casey Pierro-Zabotel sniped a shot by Rush netminder Adin Hill with 8:42 left in the opening frame.

Rapid City got their first man-advantage with 11:44 remaining in the period on a four minute double minor penalty to Colorado’s Jesse Mychan for roughing but were unable to capitalize on the lengthy opportunity.

Pressing the net late in the period, Hunter Fejes was able to sneak the puck from the scrum past Eagles netminder Kent Simpson with just 1:22 left in the frame to knot the game 1-1.

Then the lucky bounces took over.

Darryl Bootland put the Eagles back up 2-1 at 3:35 of the middle frame when he deflected a shot from Conor O’Donnell into the back of the net.  Cole Sanford followed up with his own deflection off Jesse Mychan’s shot to extend Colorado’s lead to 3-1 at 12:38 of the second period.

The Rush were finally able to close the gap when Josh MacDonald took a hard wrister with 3:40 left in the period and breath life back into the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena.

The final period would see the Rush out-shoot their rivals from the south 13-8 but the bounces just wouldn’t go their way.

Colorado would seal the win after Hill was pulled with 1:13 left and secured an empty net goal from Luke Salazar 13 seconds later.

The Rush started the game off a bit slow but seemed to pick things up as the minutes ticked on, eventually leading the SOG for the game 36-33.

Both teams will square off again tomorrow night from the Budweiser Event Center.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm MT.  You can catch all the action live from 100.3 The Fox.
