The defending Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans rebounded with authority after a rough Game Two loss, with a 5-1 thrashing of the Missouri Mavericks in Game Three on Wednesday night at the Allen Event Center. Allen jumped all over the Mavericks from the onset, out-shooting the visitors 11-0 and notching two goals before the Mavericks were even able to register their first shot on goal in the contest. Missouri would once again be without their captain, defenseman Trevor Ludwig, who did not make the trip down to Allen after being injured in Game One.

Eric Roy got the Americans on the board first, beating Mavericks netminder Parker Milner with a blast from the point, just 31 seconds into the contest. A goal has been scored by the eventual winning team in the first 90 seconds of each game of this series, and this night would be no different. Vincent Arseneau would double the Allen advantage, burying a nice feed from Chad Costello in front. Allen would out-shoot Missouri 17-7 in the frame.

The Mavericks would get on the board early in the second period, as a shot from Rocco Carzo on a short-handed 2 on 1 would be stopped by Allen goalie Riley Gill, but Josh Holmstrom would put home the rebound. That would be all the offense the Brabham Cup Champions would be able to muster. Greger Hanson would rip a wrister past Milner on the power play, Allen’s lone goal on seven man-advantage opportunities in the game, to regain their two goal lead. That lead would hold going into the third period.

Gill would take care of the rest for the Americans. The Mavericks brought some of their best pressure of the game in the third period, but could not find any type of success in the Allen end of the ice. Spencer Asuchak would put the game out of reach, going top shelf over the shoulder of Milner on a 2 on 1 to extend the Allen lead to 4-1. Asuchak would later put the icing on the cake, tapping in an empty-netter to make it 5-1 Allen, which is what the scoreboard would read as the final horn sounded.

Allen takes a 2-1 lead in the series. Game Four is Friday night at 7:05pm CDT at the Allen Event Center.
