DENVER – For the first time ever, our AHL writing staff is rolling out power rankings for all 31 American Hockey League teams. These rankings take into account stats, trends, rosters and how the teams have performed on the ice.

While the Hartford Wolf Pack has the overall AHL lead in standings points, for our first-ever ranking, the Toronto Marlies claim the top spot.

The Marlies are out to a 7-1-2-1 start, one of the best in franchise history. They are led offensively by Pontus Aberg, who has 12 points in 11 games (7G, 5A) and in net by Kasimir Kaskisuo, who has a 5-1-1-1 record with a 2.15 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.

Joining Toronto on the podium are the Iowa Wild, who are out to a similar 7-1-2-1 mark. Despite not having a player in the top-15 in league scoring, the Wild are getting steady production from their offensive group, led by Gerald Mayhew and Brennan Menell, who each have 10 points. The Wild feature one of the top netminding tandems in the league, led by Kaapo Kahkonen, who has six wins on the season. The Wild, as a team, allows 2.45 goals per contest, sixth-best in the league.
