West Division

Colorado Eagles

The Eagles have lost in the first round of the Kelly cup playoffs the last three years straight since their move to ECHL.  They will be looking to getting back to championship final appearances like in their past CHL years.

2014-15 Regular Season Record: 41-23-4-4  (90 pts)  3rd in Pacific Division, 4th in Western Conference

2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs: Lost in first round 4-3 to Ontario Reign

Key additions: Defenseman Adrian Veideman is an 11-year pro who has spent the past six seasons in Europe, capturing two championships in both Austria and Norway.  He is also a former DU captain, who won two NCAA championships in 2004 and 2005. As a ECHL rookie in 2007-08, he had 40 points in 66 games and was named to the All-Rookie team.  Last year in Norway, in 43 games he recorded 27 points on his way to winning a league championship.  Forward Kyle Ostrow is back from overseas, in his last year with Eagles (2013-14), he netted 66 points in 64 games. He is an incredibly consistent, all-around player with tons of offensive skill.

Key loss: Taylor Vause, the most skilled and dangerous forward on the Eagles roster last year, had 41 points in 30 games. He will play in the AHL this year.  The Eagles also lost their starting goalie Clarke Saunders.

What to watch for: Goaltending is so huge to a team’s success. Enter Tyler Bunz, who made his NHL debut last season with the Edmonton Oilers. In 17 games with Wichita he posted a 2.97 goals against average.  The Eagles power play was ranked in the top five in the ECHL and was key to the Eagles success last year. Look for it to get even better with addition of Veideman, an offensively-gifted defenseman quarterbacking the power play.

Sleepers: Forward Nathan Moon, who had 43 pts in 48 games last year, will be huge asset to round out the Eagles offensive attack.  A team needs three solid forward lines to be successful in the long ECHL season and Moon will help round out the Eagles offensive attack.  Jesse Mychan is back to terrorize opponents physically. Look for him to add that spark and physical element the Colorado Eagles are known for playing with.
