The Utah Grizzlies entered their Pacific Division Finals series against the Ontario Reign rested and coming off a huge upset of the Idaho Steelheads in round 1. They summarily dropped the first two games of the series in southern California.
Now, the Grizzlies come home looking to even up the series against the Reign. Game 3 gets going tonight at the Maverik Center, with faceoff set for 7pm MT/6pm PT.
In the first two games in Ontario, the Grizzlies played a very average defensive game…allowing 9 goals, including 6 in game 2 (3 of which came from Matt White.) After coming off a stellar first round, Grizzlies goaltender Igor Bobkov has a save percentage of .788 and allowed 7 of the 9 Ontario goals in the series.
I would expect to see Bobkov bounce back from a disappointing game 2 and have a solid performance in game 3 tonight. Tim Branham will likely use the home-ice advantage to make matchups that are advantageous to his team.
Reign forwards David Rutherford and Judd Blackwater missed game 2 with injuries, made the trip to Utah and may play in tonight’s game. This leaves head coach Jason Christie with the pressing question, who comes out of the lineup if Rutherford and Blackwater play? One would think Josh Brittain, who played in game 2 of the series, would be the odd man out.
For the Reign, the motto is simple, play hard, physical hockey whistle-to-whistle and pepper Bobkov with shots.
I will have a recap of game 3 later tonight. If you are headed to the arena, enjoy the playoff hockey!
