SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Thunderbirds will have another three games in three nights for the second weekend in a row. The Thunderbirds will kick off the weekend will a rematch Friday night with the Utica Comets at the MassMutual Center. Every point is crucial for the Thunderbirds as they are 19 points behind the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the final playoff spot in the American Hockey League Atlantic Division.
The Comets came out on top with the 2-1 win last Saturday after scoring two goals by the 1:28 mark of the opening period. Ian McCoshen scored the only goal for the Thunderbirds in the contest on the power play. This will be the fourth and final meeting between these two teams. The puck will drop at the MassMutual Center at 7:05 P.M.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will make their first appearance in Springfield on Saturday night. The season series between the two teams is even at one game a piece. The Thunderbirds took a 1-0 win at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza back on October 21st. The Penguins evened it up in the last meeting with a 5-3 victory back on December 27th. The Penguins can be a tough team to play against as they are the number one team in the AHL overall. The puck will drop at the MassMutual Center at 7:05 P.M. on Saturday night.
The Thunderbirds will cap off the weekend with a Sunday evening game their I-91 Rival the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Wolf Pack came out on top, scoring two goals in the final four minutes to secure the 3-2 victory last Friday night at the MassMutual Center. The Wolf Pack are in the cellar of the AHL Atlantic Division by only two points behind the Thunderbirds.
The puck will drop at the XL Center in Hartford on Sunday evening at 5:00 P.M.
