SPRINGFIELD, MA – The American Hockey League announced Thunderbirds center Jared McCann has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 16.
McCann was stellar in the final three games of the season, putting up seven points with four goals and three assists, including game-winning goals as the Thunderbirds swept the week. McCann also picked up two assists in the 4-3 victory against the Providence Bruins on Wednesday night.
He scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last Friday night and collected two points in a 5-1 victory against the Hartford Wolf Pack in the regular season finale on Saturday night.
McCann wrapped up his second professional season playing in 42 games with the Thunderbirds, scoring 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points. He also played 29 games with the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League, scoring a goal and receiving six assists.
The 20-year old native of Stratford, ONT was drafted 24th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 National Hockey League draft. He logged 69 games with the Canucks, registering 18 points with nine goals and nine assists.
McCann played three seasons for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds where he played in 184 games during those three years where he scored 82 goals and 105 assists for 187 points. In addition, he played in 15 playoff games for the Greyhounds for three years where he scored eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points.
The Thunderbirds will return to play at the MassMutual Center this fall.
