RAPID CITY, SD — A strong forty minutes of play fell by the wayside as the Idaho Steelheads tallied three goals in the 3rd to top the Rapid City Rush 3-1 on Friday night.
The Rush would tally their lone goal of the night at 11:19 of the opening frame. Riley Weselowski sent a shot toward the Idaho net that Ryan Misiak was able to deflect by Steelheads netminder Landon Bow for the early advantage.
Despite numerous scoring opportunities by both squads that single goal would hold up until the 1:14 mark of the 3rd period.
The Rush started the final frame on the penalty kill due to an unsportsmanlike penalty to Ryan Walters after the 2nd period ended. Idaho squared the contest at 1-1 when Joe Faust fired a shot through traffic and by Rush netminder Adam Morrison for the powerplay goal. Just over midway through the period the Steelheads would take their first lead of the game. Anthony Luciani took a turnover in the Rush zone and fired the puck topshelf over Morrison at 11:33 and a 2-1 lead in the game.
Morrison was pulled with just over two minutes remaining in the game but the extra attacker was not enough to get that crucial bounce by Bow. Instead, Joe Basaraba sealed the win with an empty net goal with one second left to give the visitors a 3-1 victory.
Landon Bow takes the win stopping 29-of-30 shots on the night while Adam Morrison suffers the loss stopping 26-of-28 shots on the night.
Rapid City and Idaho will conclude their series on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm MT at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena.
Playoff Scenarios: Rapid City is getting closer to “must win” scenarios for every game as the start of the playoffs is just around the corner. Coupled with the Aces’ win tonight the Rush are now 14 points out of the final playoff spot with 15 games in the regular season. On top of that, the Aces also have two games in hand over the Rush.
