LAFAYETTE, LA – Center Tayler Thompson of the Fayetteville FireAntz headlines February’s SPHL Three Stars of the Month for February 2017. Thompson was named the first star of the month, with teammate Sean Bonar named the second star. Columbus Cottonmouths winger Keegan Bruce rounded out the month’s three stars list.
Thompson, a second-year center from Bredenbury, Saskatchewan, now the SPHL’s leading scorer with 45 points over 41 games, led all scorers over the month of February with 19 points in 12 games (7G/12A) along with a +11 plus/minus rating. Thompson also leads the SPHL in assists with 30.
Bonar started all 12 games in net for the FireAntz during February, going 9-2-1 – with one win by way of shutout. The Princeton alum also had a league-high .939 save percentage among eligible goaltenders along with a remarkable 1.74 goals against average. Bonar leads the SPHL this season in wins, shutouts, goals against average, save percentage, saves, appearances, and minutes played.
The leader in goals scored among rookies this season with 21, Bruce scored ten goals for the Cottonmouths along with five assists during the month of February. The left winger from Bellingham, WA led all players with four game-winning goals last month.
