We’ve forwarded a few tweets and sent out a few others looking at who might be in Ontario (California, for those that aren’t sure) this coming season. We’ll admit it takes some getting used to as we are familiar with ECHL way of life. Now we can actually research contracts and such (Duck thinks this is amazing!).
We’ll start with last year’s Calder Cup winning roster from Manchester:
Adrian Kempe (LW) (?) Jordan Weal (C) Zach O’Brian (RW)*
Josh Gratton (LW)* Andrew Crescenzi (C) Sean Backman (RW)
Michael Mersch (LW) Nic Dowd (C) Scott Sabourin (RW)
David Van Der Gulik (LW)* Nick Shore (C) Justin Auger (RW)
Paul Bissonette (LW)
Ryan Horvat (LW)*
Derek Forbert (L) Vincent LoVerde (R)
Kevin Gravel (L) Colin Miller (R)*
Andrew Bodnarchuck (L)* Nick Ebert (R)
Jeff Schultz (L) Kevin Raine (R)*
JF Berube (G)
Patrik Bartosak (G)
Steve Mastalerz (G)*
Jeff Lerg (G)
Those with the asterisk are currently free agents or have already signed with another team. We’ll leave them out of our considerations for now. Taking them out, it leaves one left wing, one right wing and 2-3 defense positions open. We should also consider that Derek Forbort is currently projected to make the King’s roster next year, so call it 3 defense slots open.
Now onto those not a part of last year’s team, under contract with the Kings, looking for spots on the Kings’ roster, but may end up fighting for a spot on the Reign’s roster:
Andy Andreoff* (LW) Brian O’Neill (C)
Valentin Zykov (LW) (?) Jonny Brodzinski (C)
Maxim Kitsyn (LW) Kris Newbury (C)
Alex Linteniemi (?)
Eric Cernak (?)
Zack Leslie (?)
Kurtis MacDermid (?)
The asterisk here denotes players eligible for waivers should the Kings want to send them inland.
The question mark means that they are still eligible for the junior leagues.
That right wing position looks a little shaky still.
We’re not making any predictions or line combinations yet. Just something to mull about during hockey’s dead month while the sun bakes your brain.
