MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Monarchs Head Coach And Director Of Hockey Operations Richard Seeley announced on Saturday that the Monarchs leading scorer Matt Leitner has been loaned to the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League.
The Monarchs are still the ECHL affiliation of the National Hockey League Los Angeles Kings and the Ontario Reign of the AHL.
The 26 year old 5’10 175-pound center hails from Los Alamitos, CA will head to the Thunderbirds for the second time during the 2016-17 campaign. His first call-up to the Thunderbirds was back on November 11th. He logged in six games with the Thunderbirds during his first call-up registering two assists.
Leitner has logged in 22 AHL games throughout his career playing for the Milwaukee Admirals, Ontario Reign, and the Springfield Thunderbirds registering six assists.
In 51 games for the Monarchs during the 2016-17 year, Leitner is the team’s leading scorer for the Monarchs with 53 points, 14 goals, and 39 assists.
The Monarchs currently have a spot in the ECHL Kelly Cup ranking third in the Northern Division. They split the weekend series with the Atlanta Gladiators with a 4-1 victory on Friday night and a 5-1 loss last night.
The Monarchs will be back in action with a four game road trip when they travel to Santander Arena to take on the Reading Royals on Wednesday night and conclude the road trip when they take on the Elmira Jackals for the final time in Elmira.
The Springfield Thunderbirds play against the Albany Devils for a Sunday matinee at the MassMutual Center with a 3:00 P.M. puck drop.
