The Mallards extended the contract of coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. The extension goes through 2016-17 and there is an option for the 2017-18 season. Ruskowski comes into this season with a 104-77-23 record with the Mallards, the third most wins of any Mallards coach. With just seven more wins he will reach the 700 win mark. With nine more wins he’ll move into second on the Mallards’ win list behind only Paul Gillis. This will be Ruskowski’s 21st season as a head coach at the pro level. He also coached two seasons in juniors. You can read the full press release here.
In addition the Mallards signed rookie Miles Koules. Koules is 21 years old and is a right-handed shooting forward. He previously played for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. Finally, the Mallards acquired Cole Wilson from the South Carolina Stingrays for future considerations. Wilson is another rookie, but is coming out of the college ranks. He’s 25 years old and has good size at 6’2″ and 210 lbs. He played 91 games over four seasons for the University of British Colombia and had 49 goals and 37 assists (86 points). To complete the trade, the Mallards will have to send a similar player to the Stingrays before the trade deadline.
