Fort Wayne, IN–The Fort Wayne Komets continued to show Quad City what the are capable of in Game Two of the Western Conference Division Semifinals.
With a flick of the wrist, Mike Cazzola got the game rolling 5:10 into the first period, giving Fort Wayne the early lead. Shawn Szydlowski and Mike Embach each tallied an assist on the first goal of the game. Embach stayed hot, doubling the Komet’s lead when he sent the puck past Quad City goalie C.J. Motte with an absolute cannon blast from the top of the left circle. The Mallards finally got on the board at 19:15 when Jack Nevins was able to beat Komets netminder Pat Nagle after some pretty passing from Quad City, but that would be all the offense the visiting Mallards could muster in the contest.
The only goal in the second period came after a hooking call to Quad City’s Michael Parks. After some nice puck movement by Fort Wayne, Szydlowski found Komets Captain Jamie Schaafsma from behind the net who beat Motte to give Fort Wayne a 3-1 cushion, and that’s how the game would end.
Nagle wasn’t tested much but he did stop 17 of the 18 Quad City shots. Cazzola, Embach, and Szydlowski all finished with multi-point nights as the Komets take a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Fort Wayne travels to Quad City for Game Three of the series on Wednesday. Puck drop is at 7:35 P.M.
