In an official team release, the defending Kelly Cup champion Allen Americans announced the team has signed three players, two from last season’s roster and a newcomer. Gary Steffes, Justin Baker and David Makowski have all been signed to deals for the 2015-2016 season.
Gary Steffes is back for his second year with Allen after leading the ECHL in goals last year with 44. Steffes was second overall on the team with 73 points and finished the season a plus 31. The Grand Blanc, Michigan, native played in nine games last season for the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL.
Justin Baker was one of the top rookie defensemen last season in the ECHL, and finished in the top ten in scoring for the Americans with 39 points in 70 games. The native of Toronto, Ontario, was acquired via a trade before the start of last season and immediately became a top four D-man on the Americans championship roster.
David Makowski joins the Americans after playing 44 games in Wheeling last season, where he had 19 points in 44 games. Growing up in St Louis, he began his junior career with the hometown Bandits of the North American Hockey League. He spent four seasons at the University of Denver, where he scored a total of 93 points in 142 games.
Steffes and Baker will both be attending San Jose Barracuda training camp, which begins later this month.
