ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira Jackals defeated the two of the best team in the Eastern Conference the Florida Everblades and Manchester Monarchs this past week in what had to be a big morale booster for not just the players but the fan base as well.
The Jackals who struggled the majority of the season, bucked the trend this past week, going 2-2-1-0, getting five points on the week. Even in the losses against Alaska, Florida, and Reading the team showed consistency, fought back, and never threw in the towel.
The biggest contributes of the week have to be Kenton Miller and Davis Vandane scoring a combined seven goals in the five game sketch. Forward Luke Sandler scored his first ECHL career goal against Reading. The real player of the week was goaltender Andy Iles who not only played in net all five games this week but kept the Jackals in every game by making ridiculous saves.
Looking at the losses, the team was able to make it difficult for their opponents to come in and win. Losing to Alaska, forcing overtime against Florida, and losing to Reading despite scoring more goals on the night then Reading due to it being a suspended game.
With all the craziness going on off the ice, it’s great to see that the team on the ice is still moving forward.
This week Elmira added two to the roster while putting one guy on the 21-Day IR.
The Jackals signed forward Robert Lepine and goalie Greg Dodds to tryout deals.
Both players completed four years of college hockey with Lepine coming from the University of Guelph and Dodds coming from the University of Western Ontario.
The Jackals also announced they added Steven Kaunisto to the 21-Day IR.
The Jackals will get to know the Admirals over the next two weeks as this weekend the Jackals head on the road for a two game stand against the Norfolk Admirals before returning to the First Arena next week for two games. The Jackals are 2-3 against the Admirals on the season series.
