CINCINNATI, OH – Hockey is just over 48 hours away from returning to U.S. Bank Arena, and the Cincinnati Cyclones have finalized their 24-man season opening roster that will go to battle for the first time this Saturday against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:35pm EST.
The Cyclones season opening roster will consist of 24 names, including 14 forwards, seven defenseman, and three goaltenders. The ECHL only permits 21 of those players to be on the active roster so, to be complaint with the league’s rules, Head Coach Matt Macdonald had to make some extremely tough decisions in terms of final cuts.
Forwards Dylan Nowakowski and Mike Barrett were released from their contracts. Defensemen Nick Neville and Matt Geurts were released from their tryouts as well, Neville will report to the Southern Professional Hockey League’s Peoria Rivermen. Lastly, defenseman Spencer Metcalfe was released from his tryout, has signed a standard player contract, and will stick around as the 7th defenseman in Cincinnati.
In addition to the 21 active roster spots, the ECHL also allows two reserve spots as well as unlimited number of injured reserve spots. The final product will include ten active forwards, seven active defenseman, and three active goalies.
